Another Huge Day For James Wedeking

March 8th, 2011

No breathing tube, no cooling pad, no more EEG monitors, no more being alone.  He is being held my Mom and Dad, and is being fed mothers milk from a bottle. Bathed and dressed and his hair has been combed.

Cooling Procedure Completed

March 8th, 2011

Sunday 3/6/11 – 8 PM

James has completed his cooling procedure!  He is finally warm.  After 72 hours the guy can finally be wrapped up and kept warm.  We were hoping to be able to hold him in our arms today, but the nurse working thought we should wait till he gets some rest after that freezing experience.  Here is a great article describing his “cooling procedure”

James’ Adventure To This World

March 4th, 2011

So Nicole gave birth to James Cole Wedeking 3-3-11.  We just wish we could say “to a healthy baby boy”…  After a very long 24 hours of labor, James was born but he was unable to breath for a few moments, requiring a breathing tube and a whole lot of special attention.  At first we were told he could not breath due to the Meconium that he had ingested.  He was quickly rushed to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital in Loma Linda California.  He was transported by Helicopter.  Upon arrival at LLCH, the breathing tube was removed and he was able to breath on his own.  Loma Linda quickly had him setup with a “Cooling Protocol” to help diminish effects to his brain from not having oxygen after he was born.  He will be kept a few degrees below normal body temperature for 72 hours.

The moment Nicole was released from the hospital, we were on our way to Loma Linda to see our baby James.  He is in great physical condition, breathing on his own, crying and fussing, reacting to voices and seems to have come a long way since birth.  We were informed by LLCH that the reason he was unable to breath at birth was because of his stressful delivery.  He is now going on 35 hours on the cooling pad, while we are not allowed to hold him, we are allowed to lightly touch him.

This is about all the information we have and can share at this moment.  We are very happy to know that he is under 24 hour care by the very qualified staff at LLCH.

Its is very difficult not having him to take home and hold.  Having the support of our family is what is holding Nicole and I together, and we are very thankful for them.
